Scams for buying $1 backers.

The Ascent's post-mortem mentions being approached with offers to buy $1 backers. We received quite a number of messages throughout the campaign blatantly offering us the ability to “buy” $1 backers, in batches of several hundred. Several of these also explained KickStarter’s ‘popularity’ algorithm,...

Re: Kickstarter Staff Pick

I was also very surprised seeing that Profit Colony received a staff pick when it launched. There are no screenshots on the project page. The game itself needs more clarification about what it is about and how it will be played. Every project that launches eventually will get skimmed by the communit...

Re: Compulsive buyer

Welcome to the forum. A good habit is to start with a $1 pledge (Unless an early-bird is going fast) and then wait a few minutes, hours or until the next day to decide what reward tier to pick after some of the impulse buy state wears off. This helps avoid impulsively selecting a reward higher than ...

Hollow Knight and Crossing Souls.

Here are two campaigns with some impressive atmosphere in their pitch videos. Hollow Knight has a haunting trailer thanks to a mix of the music and environment art. It is a 2D metroidvania set in an underground world populated by insects. Crossing Souls is an RPG adventure with animated scenes and a...

Re: Some adventure game campaigns in Nov 2014.

HM Spiffing made its goal. http://i.imgur.com/6FYdIuV.png Johnny Rocketfingers 3 is a violent hand-drawn adventure game. The goal is $88,000 which is still relatively large even though it is only about a quarter of what Thimbleweed Park is asking for its goal. This is one of the first video game pro...

What categories on Kickstarter are your favorites?

By far most of the projects I've backed are in the Games category (About 76%). I am often looking for indie games that support Linux. The next biggest is the Film & Video category (About 14%). I like to support animation-related projects. I don't really follow the other categories nearly as much. In...

Re: Some adventure game campaigns in Nov 2014.

Here is a big adventure game project. Thimbleweed Park is a new adventure game from former LucasArts developers Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick. It is already over 28% funded for its $375,000 goal. It is getting very late in the year to run a campaign like that, but there is a lot of nostalgia driving ...

Re: Some adventure game campaigns in Nov 2014.

To Azimuth is an adventure game about characters searching for missing loved one in a 1970s setting. I like the colour choices. They have a prototype video , but it would be nice if the prototype was currently available to downloaded to try. At the 5 minute mark in that video there is an interestin...

Re: Impact Winter

What I see skimming it is a game idea that could maybe do $70,000 or a little less than half of what they were asking for. When I make such estimates they are often a bit pessimistic, but not by much. Any higher would require more to show and even better execution. For games where atmosphere is impo...

Re: KS junkie

Welcome to the forum. The retractable landing gear on the Plexidrone is a cool feature in a drone that inexpensive. I saw the RC Groups thread about that project. More of the automatic following drones have been becoming available recently. It looks like it could be a good RTF (Ready To Fly) drone a...
