Not the place to promote your project

Some friendly advice from a frequent backer and a social media coach.

Introductions are a place yo introduce yourself. They are not the place to be promoting your product/campaign. I'm very turned off when someone uses the introduce yourself area simply to point me to their campaign. I suspect based on the lack of replies/welcome to creators doing this I'm not the only one.

In an introduction post: Tell me about yourself. Tell me about the kind of projects you've backed. Mention you are a creator. Don't try to sell me anything here.

Go to the Kickstarter discussion area, find the appropriate category and post about your project, link to your Backerclub project page so I can learn about special perks (if you are a Backerclub project), link to Kickstarter page, and tell me something unusual about your project which I won't find on the project pages.

Then, in the appropriate categories, share a few projects your backing and why. Skip this if you aren't backing any projects.

By doing this you look like you want to be a member of the club and I and others are likely to react to you favorably. If you are a frequent backer and fascinated by Kickstarter welcome to the addicts club.

If you are here just to sell your campaign stick with your Backerclub project page and the Kickstarter sub-forum; you'll make a better impression.

Well said indeed. May I propuse to the admins to create a PLEASE READ FIRST post or folder for rules and good behavior. I have seen this in many forum groups. Remember, the people joining this group could be from anywhere in the world and there may be different acceptable behaviors where they are from.

Yes, thank you Tasha for posting this. I think this echoes all of our thoughts. I've gone ahead and made this post sticky. Thanks!

Good feedback. I wouldn't have known as well :) Maybe this is a good feedback to our moderators. To give an into-instruction on the etiquettes of our BackerClub. I have another feedback on UX. i know how expensive it is to hire a developer and perhaps, we can all provide a small donation for backerclub on http://www.tilt.com to hire an odesk or fiverr dev to better the interface. A scroll feature within a scroll feature could be hard for most people.

Hi Tasha! I'm Zen (I'll add another post with my blurb)

Thanks all I'm glad this is helpful. I think it might be up to us to decide what we find acceptable and document that like I did here. Maybe start something in BackerClub forum? Then ask Mark to look it over and if it meets with his approval pass it along to creators when their projects are accepted?

This is true on many media Tasha, especially nasty if someone tries to self-promote on Reddit...they are serious on that site! Ruthless. Greg

Goodreads can be pretty ruthless in how members react to self-promotional. Always surprises me that it needs explaining on each social media as if it's a new concept.
