THE ONE JACKET THAT NEVER LEAVES YOUR PACK, OR YOUR BACK POCKET
Gale VS is a featherlight, well-rounded jacket you would take anywhere, from cycling through city streets to trail running an exposed ridgeline.
After the success of our last Kickstarter, 'The Helios Trail Pants', where we developed our proprietary Sunsail™ fabric derived from discarded fishing nets, we decided to use the same technical yarn to develop our new Gale VS jacket.
The Gale VS jacket does not include built-in heaters, air conditioners, 40+ pockets with another 100+ features stuff into the jacket, nor does it make you bulletproof and make you fly- that would be pretty epic, to be honest.
But the reality is this type of product generally over-promises and under-delivers.
The Gale VS jacket plays smarter, not harder.
Reading time: 2 minutes.
It's all in the layers.
Technical shell jackets usually come in different 'layers' of fabric constructions. The outer layer would provide protection against the elements, and the inner layers would provide benefits to the body such as waterproofing, breathability, moisture-wicking, and cooling. The more layers you have, the more protection you would get against the elements, but the overall comfort level also decreases because thicker, multi-layered fabrics are not as breathable as single-layered fabrics. They are also much heavier and have a stiffer hand feel.
1. Single layer. Double features.
With our Gale VS, we applied different innovations within a single-layered construction, resulting in a lighter material while providing the features of a 2 layer equivalent jacket. At only 40gsm, our fabric is truly ultralight and extremely soft.
2. Normal ripstop vs Micro ripstop.
Ripstop fabric provides added durability by having heavier threads weaved together so that a tear will not spread. The closer the weave, the less chance a tear will spread. You can normally tell a ripstop fabric by its square pattern on the surface, but you can hardly see ours because we chose a micro ripstop construction to provide extra durability in an ultralight fabric.
3. What is Cire© cooling technology?
Cire© is a performance finish where we use a heat and pressure technique to enhance the material structure without adding extra weight or harmful chemicals to the fabric. We applied this to the inside of the fabric, which you can feel once you put the jacket on by its cool-to-touch hand feel. As you move, Cire© kicks in to keep your body temperature well regulated and prevent you from overheating. If you run hot, this will be a joy to experience!
Complete product specs can be found at the bottom of this page or in our FAQ.
With over 14 features fused into one single layer of fabric, we have created a unique versatile jacket that you can rely on wherever you go. The classic question of 'why didn't I bring a jacket?!' would not apply to the Gale VS.

The Gale VS has two interior deep pockets for larger items, two exterior deep pockets for other items, and one secured inner pocket for your essentials.
Our Gale jacket has been tested by Trailblazers worldwide for the past 3 months since our capsule launch of the FL version last year.
The VS (Version Sunsail™) model shares all the great features of the FL. The main difference is the fabric construction, which is now made from our Sunsail™ yarn derived from discarded fishing nets and re-engineered into a micro-ripstop fabric.
Please watch the product demonstration video below by Active Ideas:
We also gave Seth, a seasoned marathon runner, the jacket to test out. It is a sponsored video for full disclosure, but Seth only agreed to the collaboration after testing it for a few months and decided the Gale FL is now his new go-to windbreaker.

Staying cozy and comfortable with the GaleHood™
1. Ultralight and Versatile Travel Gear
Weighing in at around 3.5oz, you can literally pack the Gale VS wherever you go. Instead of having your old jacket tied around your waist, you can simply put it in your pocket or attach it to your pack without noticing it's there.
2. Cire© Cooling and Moisture Wicking
Innovation isn't always visible with our fabric, but you can always feel it. Our unique Cire© cooling technology feels cool to the touch and disperses your body heat as you become more active so you will never feel hot and stuffy with the Gale VS.
3. Ultra Packable Anywhere You Go
The Gale VS packs into its own pocket, and it is so small that you will always find the space to fit an extra layer into your everyday life. Planning a hike with unpredictable temperatures and weather? Going into a place where the air-con is being blasted? Or simply living in a place where it's cold most of the year? The Gale VS provides limitless packability ready for any unpredictable moments.
4. Net-Zero Recycled Sunsail™ Nylon
Just like the farm-to-table ideology is to food, we believe it is crucial to bring awareness to how our materials are made. Traditional Nylon is a synthetic made using petroleum (oil), which is a non-renewable resource that is polluting our environment. Our recycled Sunsail™ Nylon is made from post-consumer plastics such as discarded fishing nets, which use far less energy and carbon footprint to produce. To take this one step further, we offset the carbon footprint of this material, making it a carbon-neutral material for us to create this next generation of technical fabric. You are not only getting a better product, but you are also supporting the welfare of our planet.
5. Micro Rip-Stop For Added Durability
Rip-stop fabrics are known for their tear-resistant properties, so it made sense to develop our fabric using this construction technique. We went one step further to increase the density of the construction to create a micro version of the rip-stop fabric. This jacket will have your back from day 1.
6. Feel Comfortable With Soft Touch Fabric
A jacket needs to be as comfortable as it is functional. We use ultrafine yarn to weave our fabric in order to create a soft texture that you can feel instantly when you put the jacket on. You've got to enjoy the little things in life too!
7. Ultra-Breathable On The Move
Not only is our fabric ultra-breathable (aiming 25-30k+g/m2), there are hidden armpit vents on both sides that open as you move. The Gale VS breathes and cools you down as you get on with your busy day.
8. Anti-Microbial and Low Maintenance
Washing takes up precious time when you are always on the move. That's why the Gale VS is designed to be low maintenance with its anti-microbial fabric. Got dirt on the jacket? Simply wash it off with water and see your problem glide off the fabric. Stay fresh 24/7.
9. Wind Resistant
Please wait a few seconds for this animation to load.
Stuck in a windy situation? Zip up the Gale VS and put on the adjustable GaleHood™, which has been designed to provide a quick and customized fit for all the 'trail heads' out there!
10. Quick Dry
Managed to get the Gale VS soaked to the core? That's impressive and hard to achieve. Just hang it out and grab a cup of tea. By the time you've finished, it'll be good to go again. be pleasantly surprised by how quickly the jacket dries!
11. Water Resistant
The Gale VS will stand against light rain any time of the day with our durable water repellent finish.
12. PFC-Free DWR
PFCs are harmful chemicals that are normally used in DWR finishing on your typical outdoor clothing. For some PFCs there is evidence that they cause harm to reproduction, promote the growth of tumors and affect the hormone system. They also break down very slowly and remain in the environment for many years. Basically, it is extremely toxic to humans and our planet. Our DWR finish is PFC-FREE, meaning it has reached the highest standards in terms of safety for the wearer and sustainability for our planet. We highly recommend backers to look out for 'PFC-FREE' whenever they see a pretty video of liquid gliding magically on a fabric's surface.
13. Sun Protection (UPF 50+)
Weaved permanently in the fabric and never washes off. There's a reason why we named our fabric after a Sun God.
14. Temperature Regulating
One of the main problems we experienced with other jackets is how hot and stuffy they feel when you wear the jacket for a period of time, especially when you are on the move. That is why we developed an ultra-breathable fabric with hidden armpit vents. We found this combination to be magical and worked great during our 3+ months of field testing the jacket. You just don't need those extra worries that come with a stuffy jacket that feels like wearing a bin bag.

NET ZERO IMPACT
SEADON chooses Recycled Nylon made from discarded fishing-nets sourced world-wide. It shares the same ecological benefits as Recycled Polyester by diverting waste from landfills while also requiring fewer production resources than virgin nylon. Diverting garbage from the ocean is another huge environmental plus in preserving sea life and global water quality.
Final measurements can vary between 0 - 0.5 inches.
Men's Sizing:
If you are in-between sizes, we recommend measuring your current favorite lightweight jacket and seeing what type of fit you would prefer for the Gale VS. For a more relaxed fit, size up.
Women sizing:
We recommend sizing down for those looking for a regular fit. For example, if you wear a size large, then we recommend choosing a medium. If you prefer a more relaxed fit, then you won't need to size down.
