Edwin Van Ruymbeke is a French aeronautical engineer carrying on a family legacy of mechanical flying toys stretching back to the 1970s Tim Bird. He's already delivered multiple successful crowdfunding campaigns, including the Bionic Bird (Indiegogo) and MetaFly (Kickstarter, nearly 6,500 backers). With decades of biomimetic flight expertise, this creator knows how to both build and ship.

The Swift flies by pure wing-flapping, not propellers, generating real aerodynamic lift just like an actual bird. The interchangeable dual-tail system is brilliant: swap in the Speed tail for up to 31 km/h or the Precision tail for controlled flight as slow as 3.5 km/h. At just 10.9 grams with smartphone app control and a capacitive joystick attachment, this is miniature engineering at its finest.

The Swift is incredibly lightweight and uses rechargeable batteries, keeping its environmental footprint small. As an ornithopter, it produces virtually no noise compared to propeller drones, which is a plus for wildlife and neighbors alike. Transparency is solid with Van Ruymbeke's track record of open communication through past campaigns.

Early bird pricing starts at just EUR 79 (about $94), with standard tiers at EUR 109 (~$129) against a planned retail of EUR 156 (~$185). For a smartphone-controlled biomimetic flying drone with 10-12 minutes of flight time and 150m range, that's remarkable value. This is a genuinely unique product in a category with almost no competition.
