This is Albert Gajšak's 6th Kickstarter, and the CircuitMess team has been at it since 2017. They've shipped over 300,000 kits across 40 products. They know this game inside and out.
It's a real 4G phone that shows up in pieces and needs no soldering to build. You code it in MicroPython or Arduino C++, with AI-assisted coding if you want a boost. Plug-in modules add a camera, an IR blaster, sensors and more. It even has a headphone jack!
Open hardware files, printable cases and spare parts sold one at a time mean it's built to be repaired. The factory contract covers restricted substances, forced labor and years of spare-part production. Stock ships to regional warehouses, which cuts down on flying each parcel on its own.
The phone kit is $129, and the MAKERpack with the MAKERband watch is $189. The Inventor's Pack at $219 adds six expansion modules, and family and classroom packs cost less per kit. Shipping and taxes are charged after the campaign, so plan for that.
